Ebuka Obi Uchendu born Chukwuebuka Obi-Uchendu first opened his eyes on July 14, 1982, Benin City, Edo, Nigeria. He is 37 years as of 2019.
He was born in Benin City, Edo State to a banker father and a mum who is a nurse, he is the third of four children with an elder sister as well as one older brother, and a younger brother. Ebuka went through with his nursery and primary education in the mid-western Nigerian city of Benin, remarkably passing the Common Entrance Examination into secondary school from Primary Four. He subsequently moved to the capital city of Abuja with his family.
Had his secondary education at Christ The King College Abuja, graduating in 1997, before getting his university education at the University of Abuja, up until 2004. He proceeded to the Nigerian Law School Bwari, Abuja finishing in 2005 and then returned to school after a 5-year working gap, graduating in December 2010 from the Washington College of Law of the American University Washington DC, with Master of Laws degree specializations in Intellectual Property as well as Communications law from the Law and Government program
On 15th April 2015, he got engaged to a Human Resource Manager, Cynthia Obianodo in Lagos State, Nigeria. On 6th February 2016, Ebuka and his fiancée Cynthia Obianodo got married in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria. On 8th November 2016, Uchendu and his beautiful wife Cynthia Obianodo welcomed their first daughter. They are expecting there second child come 2019.
In 2006, Ebuka went in as one of the 14 housemates on the first season and edition of the popular reality television show “Big Brother Naija” finishing in eighth place of the competition. In January 2017, Ebuka was announced as the host of the second season of Big Brother Naija as well as the host of the third and fourth season of the reality show Big Brother which was held in 2018.
After contesting in the Big Brother Naija Reality Show in 2006, Ebuka signed an endorsement deal with major telecommunication brad as well as a popular brewing company. He also hosted a Friend or Foe on NTA, the GLO show on NTA, as well as Gunnines’ TV. He also maintained a weekly column called Contrast with Thisday Newspaper, a Nigerian national daily newspaper for over 4 years and has written for publications including What is New and Ace Magazines.
During the 2011 general elections in Nigeria, Uchendu hosted the first-ever presidential debate focused on youth issues, which was broadcast live across Nigeria. He also freelances as a master of ceremony (MC) for events, ceremonies, and concerts.
In July 2014, he joined as a co-host on Naija Politics on EbonyLife Television. The show presents experts and panelists discussing diverse issues as they affect Nigerian politics. The program is aired every week across Africa on EbonyLife Television. In July 2016, Obi-Uchendu became the host of “Men’s Corner” which is Nigeria’s first all-male television talk show.
In 2013, the producers of Rubbin Minds, a popular television talk-show for young Nigerians, announced that Obi-Uchendu will be the new host of the show. According to Williams Adebola, the Executive Producer of Rubbin Minds; “It’s been five spectacular years, and we are excited to take this to a whole new level in 2013.” The Executive Producer of Rubbin Minds, Williams Adebola explained that Ebuka has been an influential voice for young people across issues from pop culture to politics over the past few years and is the right man to anchor the show.
In the process of anchoring television programs on Rubbin Minds, Ebuka has gone on to interview some of the biggest Nigerian youth such as Banky W, Gbenga Sesan, Seun Kuti, Oluchi Onwegba, Davido, Wizkid, Flavour, Tekno, Japheth J. Omojuwa and Chika Unigwe, amongst others. In 2013, Obi-Uchendu became one of the co-hosts of “The Spot” a show that combines a bit of reality TV with talk show and sitcom, showing on EbonyLife Television on DSTV channel 165 alongside with Lamide Akintobi and Zainab Balogun. The show anchored by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on EbonyLife Television airs every weekend across 48 African countries.
Uchendu in the cause of his career as an On-Air Personality and a television presenter has won and has been nominated for several awards. In 2007 and 2008 respectively, he was nominated for the On-Air Personality of the Year at the Future Awards. The year 2013, 2014 and 2015 respectively, he won the Outstanding Television Presenter of the Year (Male) at the Nigerian Broadcaster’s Merit Awards.
Come 2011, he was selected as a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum. Additionally, In 2013, he was honored by the Federal Government of Nigeria as one of the Best 100 Young Nigerians in one of the events to mark Nigeria’s 100th anniversary as a union.
